Representatives from Wisconsin & Chicago-area Mennonite churches: Milwaukee, Madison, Maple Avenue (Waukesha), Evanston, and Chicago Community, gathered at Milwaukee Mennonite Church on March 13, 2010 to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the conference's polity, to fellowship, to pray, to sing, and to eat together. Below are some of the items congregations brought to share that were symbolic of their church community.

On February 14 we spent a lovely winter day-long retreat at Bill and Marshall’s farm. Here’s what some of the children and youth liked about the day:
Levi: …feeding the sheep. I liked the feel of their tongues—it feels weird.
Simon: …all the games we played. The slap-the-person-with-the-fish-game, because right as you get to someone they say someone else’s name and so you’re running around. [Editor’s note: the “fish” was a stuffed animal].
Soraya: …sledding! When Sam’s dad made that ramp and you landed, “Ooof!” Also eating. I’d have to say I liked the breakfast burritos best.
Sam: ….singing all the songs! And the Rock-Paper-Scissors contest. I versed Rebecca and Bill. I beat Bill and then Rebecca beat me. It was lucky that my dad won. [Editor’s note: in a thrilling finale, David S. rallied from a 2-0 deficit to Rebecca to take the 2nd annual MMC R-P-S crown].
Sarah: …singing and being with other people.
Lydia: …playing with the kids in the basement and sledding.
Norah: ...sledding, and getting all snowed on!
Dejaquan: ...I loved the group games and the sledding. |
